The name "Telangana" refers to the word Trilinga Desa, earned due to the presence of three ancient Shiva Temples at Kaleshwaram, Srisailam, and Draksharamam. A more historical reasoning is that during the reign of Nizams, the region was known as Telugu Angana to differentiate it from the areas where Marathi was spoken.

The Culture of Telangana in India has a cultural history of about 5,000 years. The region emerged as the foremost centre of culture in Indian subcontinent during the rule of Kakatiya, the Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi dynasties— (also known as the Nizams of Hyderabad). The Hyderabad style emerged in the 17th century under the influence of Nizams. Dhokra or Dokra is a famous craft which is also known as Bell Metalcraft. Here artisans produce figurines, peacocks, elephants, horses, tribal gods and other variety of birds and animals which are made of brass.

Telangana is a semi-arid area and has a predominantly hot and dry climate. Summers start in March, and peak in May with average high temperatures in the 42 °C (108 °F) range. The monsoon arrives in June and lasts until September with about 755 mm (29.7 inches) of precipitation.

Citizens of most countries, including the United States, need a visa to visit India which should be arranged in advance. Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan do not need a visa, while some nationalities may get them upon arrival.

Hyderabad has convenient local transport system which connects the entire city through local buses, trains and cabs at very reasonable prices. The bus and train service run by Telangana State transport system, connects various major points within the city limits and suburbs.

Before you leave on your holiday, there are at least four health-related things you should do. Please check the handbook for specifics, but for now, here’s the short list:

Step 1: Check with the CDC for their recommendations for the countries you’ll be visiting.

Step 2: Have a medical checkup with your doctor.

Step 3: Pick up any necessary medications, both prescription and over-the-counter.

Step 4: Have a dental and/or eye checkup. (Recommended, but less important than steps 1-3.)

We recommend avoiding packing any plastic bags in your luggage before flying to Kenya. You should also remove any items purchased at departure airports from their bags before boarding. Double check your luggage before disembarking in Kenya and leave any plastic bags on the plane.
